About
An event is being organised to coincide with National Local History Month and also in memory of the late Peter Allen who passed away in May 2009. Hence the series of lectures is to be called “The Peter Allen Memorial Lectures.” The event is being organised by Thatcham Historical Society, but with a great deal of help and support from many individuals and organistions as you can see on our supporters page.
The aim in the National Local and Community History Month, according to The Historical Association (www.history.org.uk):
is to increase awareness of local history, promote history in general to the local community and encourage all members of the community to participate.
So from Thatcham Historical Society’s point of view, the aim is to educate the local population, and wider afield, about the heritage of Thatcham and surrounding area.
We have organised a series of short talks to be given each Saturday in May. The talks are approximately 2 hours long and are to be done in two parts. The first part would be about a topic, for example the “A history of Thatcham”, whereas the second part would highlight how to get started in that topic. In other words, information on how to get started in local history.
Tickets will be required to some of the events.
Donations will be asked for at each event and all money raised will be donated to the British Heart Foundation.
